Sleepy

Am I the only person splept over Puccini's Il trittico (The Triptych) ? I hope not! According to wikipedia,
"As a whole, Il trittico is quite balanced. Il tabarro, the first act, is very dark and brooding, full of the violence and grit associated with verismo opera. Suor Angelica, the second act, Puccini's personal favourite, is an up-lifting tale of religious redemption. Gianni Schicchi, the third act, is the most popular, a comedic farce full of greed and conniving."
Il tabarro is very heavy and my beloved Juan Pons played the jealous husband who killed his wife's lover. The crash of love and passion can only be experienced and not understood. I slept for the most part of Suor Angelica. The story of the suicide of a nun is not so exciting, although the ending of the ACT is very touching. Angelica drunk the poison and asked for forgiveness of Virgin Mary. In her fantasy, her died son reappears in a warm light of heaven as a little prince. The shadow of the light makes a big cross on the stage and Angelica's body lies in the middle of the cross. Gianni Schicchi is like a musical, rather than an opera. It is full of jokes and makes people laugh from the beginning to the end.
The three operas all deal with love and death, in dramatically different ways. The intertwining story lines reveal the nobility of live and love in the most humane manner. It is because of the heaviness of Il tabarro that the audience can appreciate the carefree nature of Gianni Schicchi. Only the spiritual height of Suor Anglica can leverage the unspoken pain of Il tabarro. The structure of the opera is intended to follow Dante’s Divine Comedy. It achieves a trinity, in the sense that hatred, sense of atone, and rejoice converge into a grand sense of being human.
